What is cow dung paper?
Cow dung paper is an eco-friendly, handmade paper created using processed cow manure.
It might sound unusual, but the process is clean and sustainable. The dung (mainly from cows that eat grass) contains a lot of natural plant fibers. These fibers are washed thoroughly, sterilized, and then blended into pulp. That pulp is mixed with other natural materials (like recycled paper or plant fibers) and formed into sheets, just like traditional handmade paper.
What makes it special:
- Sustainable: It repurposes agricultural waste instead of cutting down trees
- Low environmental impact: Uses less water and fewer chemicals than conventional paper
- Durable & textured: Has a natural, slightly rustic look and feel
- Odor-free: It does not smell after processing
It’s often used for artisanal products like greeting cards, journals, and packaging—especially in handmade and fair-trade goods.
